A Safety Belt for Staying Afloat in the Turbulence of Organized and Extreme Abuse
Abstract
This webinar will encompass a series of presentations, each covering another angle of what clinicians who work with survivors of Organized and Extreme Abuse face. Our presenters include Valerie Sinason, Emma Sunshaw, and Faige Flakser. The purpose of this webinar is to provide education and support to those already in the field of trauma and dissociation, and to encourage more clinicians to improve care and response to Organized and Extreme Abuse issues specifically. The webinar will cover topics such as:
- the conditioning of cues, including the imprinting of time, date, and language as a trauma trigger;
- the trauma and deprivation of religious abuse, including the impact of politics and high demand religions, and the vulnerability and exploitation of survivors as prey for these groups;
- the unique challenges in psychotherapy such as loss of trust in self and others, moral injury, and other effects of mind control.
The webinar aims to empower clinicians with a deeper understanding of some common challenges, so that they might come away with tools, insights, and greater confidence in this challenging work. We want to improve care for clients while tending to current context and everyday risks.
Potential to Distress: Yes
